Jeff: This song is apparently about our Vegas trips and my, uh, “reputation.” Apparently. Anthony wrote the lyrics, so I’m guessing. I wouldn’t want to assume anything….

Anthony: Well it’s getting to be that time again. The next Vegas trip is on the horizon and it sure helps get you through those weeks when you’re swamped at work and sick to boot. So as I sat remembering Vegas trips past I recalled a particlular scenario that has always provided us with laughs…unfortunately at Jeff’s expense. See he has this habit of just sorta disappearing from bars and then being gone for God knows how long. Truly only God knows because by the time we realize he’s gone no one is sure when he left. And of course when we find him he’s shamed us all in some form or another. But don’t go thinking this is a slam on Jeff. As I told him when I wrote it, it’s truly a love song. Cuz we love laughing our asses off at him. Enjoy.

Jeff: FAWM does funny things to people, like making them write songs about fantasies and their daily life. This song is about a lady in a Prius that I see every morning, and for those of you who say “You’re too old to be crushing on all the moms at your kids’ school,” I say “Hey, you’re pretty cute. What are you doing after we all get our kids to school on time?” Anyway, here’s a song about that. More or less.

Song #41 – Waitin’ On Vegas

Jeff (from FAWM): This song is a collaboration with my best friend and sometime lyrical collaborator, Anthony, who’s not in FAWM. I told him I was doing this and he said, “I can’t really help you because my job is crazy and the only words I can think of at the moment are of the four letter variety.” So I challenged him to write lyrics about how we’re going to Vegas in 2 months and how that’s keeping him going, and this is what he sent me. I think they’re great lyrics, so here we are.

Mostly. I’ve learned two things already through FAWM:

1) I can’t write a country song to save my life. This song BEGS to be a country tune, with a sing along chorus and some honky tonk guitar, but that is apparently my kryptonite, because I couldn’t figure out to get there with the tools I have.
2) I can’t dote on a song like I normally would when only putting up one song a week on my blog. My math says we should all have 3.5 songs in the can right now if we’re going to hit 14, but I only have 2 because I spent a bunch of time trying to put this song into a country groove….so I finally just said, “Okay, it is what it is, let it go and move on.” So it’s a typically quirky Jeff C. production, a little poppy, a little something something…..I think I’ll revisit it in a month or two and see if it wants to be a country song, but because it’s February and I’m a little behind, here it is. Enjoy.

Song #40 – FAWM FAWM FAWM FAWM

Jeff: It’s February Album Writing Month (FAWM.ORG), and this year I’m going to attempt it. The goal, simply, is to write 14 songs in the month of February. Which works out to be one every……let’s see…..carry the one….two days. So here’s my first shot at it. Granted, it’s a little gimmicky to write a song about FAWM, but you know I like gimmicks. And, so the lyrics make sense, here’s a little background:

A “zong” is a song with no comments on it at the fawm website. Last year I started listening to people’s songs and this guy Errol wrote a song that he wanted to be a zong, but I commented on it because I didn’t read the faq or know what I was doing and because I really liked it….I was embarrassed about my faux pas, and didn’t get involved, but I did apologize profusely. Make sense?

So this month you’ll see 14 songs out of me and my friends. They might be good, they might suck, they might go off the beaten path (Klezmer ska, anyone?), but it’ll be an experience. And art is meant to be experienced, right? So enjoy. And come back in two days for a song about Facebook. And go check out Errol and all the other great songwriters at fawm.org. Song #39 – Nothing More To Say

Jeff: Well, here we are, Twenty Ten, going on the future….and we finally have a new song for you. I think this year we’re going to do a song every other Tuesday, just to make sure we can keep up and put more time into these things. I’ve rearranged the Vegas Bound Studios so all the recording equipment is set up all the time, and there are several good song ideas percolating about and MCQ has a gig in August (The Boulder Fringe Festival), so we should have some quality tunes for you this year. Which doesn’t forgive today’s song, but whatever.

The music for this song is something I’ve had sitting around for awhile and have always had my ear on as something that could be turned into a decent song. The lyric “Nothing More To Say” came about one day in a fit of anger, when I was frustrated with whatever situation I was in at the time….but as the new year unfolded and I took some time off and things seemed to level off and maybe take a small turn for the better, I couldn’t write that song anymore. So yesterday, when I sat down to write the lyrics for this, it became not about anger, but about a gentle Sunday morning. Yeah, sometimes guys can be gentle. Enjoy. And come back in two weeks for more gentle whisps of music….riiiiight. We’ll have something rockin’ in two weeks. I can only take so much of this gentle happiness.
